National Theatre Tokyo Bunraku

Experience the elegance and emotional depth of traditional Japanese puppet theater this spring with a special Bunraku performance at Theatre 1010. Taking place from May 10 to May 25, this limited run offers audiences a rare chance to witness one of Japan’s most refined performing arts. Recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, Bunraku is celebrated for its intricate puppets operated by skilled puppeteers alongside powerful storytelling.

The program is divided into three parts, allowing audiences to choose from different stories. Subtitles are available in English and Japanese via a smartphone application. An English synopsis is also included in the Japanese brochure.

Tickets go on sale April 14 at 10am, discounts is available for students and visitors with disabilities. Wheelchair spaces are available upon request and same-day tickets may be purchased at the box office if seats remain.
