The NACT uncovers similarities in the works of two artists whose careers took very different trajectories, despite forging their identities together at university in the 70s. Painter Toeko Tatsuno looked to the bright colors of Pop Art for inspiration whereas photographer Toshio Shibata was influenced by Minimalism. Still, both artists show an obsession with the hidden forms and symmetries to be found around us, a predilection that reveals itself when their large-scale works are exhibited side-by-side in the NACT’s giant spaces.
