Tokyo Halloween Festival 2026: Yokai Nights With Metropolis x Monique and Miya
October 31
Halloween comes to Roppongi with Yokai Nights, a costume party open to everyone and inspired by Japanese folklore—think yokai, ghosts, demons, fox spirits, and samurai.
DJs and dancers keep the night going, and the costume contest grand prize is two nights in a deluxe suite at Hilton Okinawa Sesoko Resort. Any costume is welcome.

Tokyo Disney Resort Halloween
September 16 – October 31
From September 16 to October 31, expect to see Tokyo Disneyland adorned head to toe in Halloween flair. This all-ages event can be enjoyed from the main Disneyland park or the Tokyo DisneySea park. Our recommendation? Jump in line for the Haunted Mansion at DisneySea, and immerse yourself in the frightening atmosphere right away!

Dark Arts Halloween at Harry Potter Studio Tour Tokyo
September 11 – November 3
Harry Potter Studio Tour Tokyo debuts Dark Arts Halloween this autumn, its first seasonal event of this kind in Japan. Death Eaters roam the tour and Dementors lurk in the Forbidden Forest, while the Great Hall transforms into a full Halloween feast. Limited-edition dishes, including a purple-bunned Halloween Burger, round out the experience through November 8.

Sanrio Puroland Halloween
September 11 – November 3
Puroland’s annual Halloween parade event takes place every day from September 11 to November 3. Their vibrant parade displays attract guests from all over the world, and this Halloween version is no different. There will also be photo opportunities, new decorations around the park and merchandise.

Chiikawa Park’s Halloween Event
September 25-October 31
Chiikawa Park transforms for the season, running September 25 through October 31. The park’s entrance and shops get a Halloween makeover, complete with a dedicated photo spot and characters dressed for the occasion wandering the grounds. A limited “Halloween Greeting” event and exclusive merchandise round out the celebration.

Kichijoji Halloween Festival
October 23 – 25
Join Kichijoji’s community-based, volunteer-ran Halloween event from October 23-25. They are hosting a trick-or-treat Candy Rally each day, and a Kids Costume Fashion Show on the 26th. This event is perfect for families of all ages to celebrate Halloween and to help connect with the city of Kichijoji.

Ikebukuro Halloween Cosplay Festival
October 31 – November 1
From October 31 through to November 1, head to Ikebukuro for one of Japan’s largest cosplay events. Ikehalo is one of the largest cosplay events in Japan, so whether you’re attending as a visitor or a cosplayer yourself, it’s definitely worth a visit.

Halloween Afternoon Tea in Tokyo at Hotel New Otani

Il Lupino’s opulent afternoon tea comes with a Halloween twist from September 14 to October 31. USDA grade beef burgers, open sandwiches topped with caviar, apple pannacotta and more are on offer, as well as four unique Halloween-themed drinks. The dishes are as fancy as they are positively spooky.

Cocoche is hosting a Halloween concert for all members of the family, with the tagline for this event inviting parents with even the youngest of children to have fun and listen to this concert event. Featuring live music, onstage performances and events for young guests to partake in.

OCTPATH Halloween Night 2025
October 31
A Halloween event, “Costume Werewolf: Seven Octopuses and One Wolf” by the boy group OCTPATH is being held on October 31. Guests can hear performances with a Halloween twist by the group, as well as take photos with cosplayers of each boy. If you’re interested in a spooky twist on Jpop, this event is right up your alley.

Yokai Bon Odori
October 10 – 12
Tokyo nightlife meets ancient folklore at the Yokai Bon Odori, where traditional shamisen players share the stage with DJs. By day, watch the Bon Odori dance and stage shows in the ticketed areas. And by night, the streets come alive with free festivities including food trucks, pop-up performances, and a “yokai disco” parade. Just in time for Halloween, it’s a chance to celebrate Japan’s mischievous spirits in true Tokyo style.

Metropolis’ Tokyo Halloween FAQs
Avoid costumes involving realistic weapons or anything that could be mistaken for a real emergency (fake blood is fine, but leave prop firearms at home, as they can draw police attention).
Don Quijote (Donki) stores across Tokyo stock large costume sections from late September through October, and are a reliable one-stop shop for wigs, makeup, and accessories.
Shibuya, Ikebukuro, and Shinjuku branches tend to have the widest selection. Costume rental shops and specialty stores in Harajuku and Akihabara are also worth checking for higher-quality or cosplay-style outfits.
Not literally, you can’t be banned from walking around in costume, but ward officials have actively discouraged people from gathering at Shibuya Station for Halloween in recent years, citing safety concerns after the 2022 Itaewon crowd crush in Seoul. If you want the classic Shibuya energy without the crush, consider ticketed rooftop or club events nearby instead of the street itself.
Beyond the informal Shibuya street gathering, Ikebukuro hosts the Ikebukuro Halloween Cosplay Festival, an organized parade that’s more family- and cosplay-friendly than Shibuya’s crowds. Roppongi and Shinjuku’s Kabukicho area have concentrated club and bar scenes running Halloween parties throughout the weekend.
No. Shibuya enforces a year-round ban on street drinking in the area around Shibuya Station, including Center-gai, and this is strictly enforced with extra patrols during Halloween.
Shinjuku also imposes a temporary public drinking ban over the Halloween period.
Convenience stores in these areas are often asked to pause alcohol sales during peak hours.
Save the drinking for inside bars, izakayas, or ticketed events.
Roads around Shibuya Crossing and Hachiko Square are often partially closed to vehicle traffic on Halloween night as pedestrian volume spikes, and police may direct foot traffic into one-way flows.
Trains get packed fastest between 8pm and midnight, so if you’re heading into Shibuya, Ikebukuro, or Shinjuku, expect station staff managing entry queues at peak times.
Taxis are harder to flag in these areas that night, so it’s worth pre-booking a ride-hailing app car if you’re not taking the train home.
Keep noise down once you’re off the main event areas, as Tokyo neighborhoods are residential right up to the entertainment districts.
Ask before photographing other costumed strangers, and be mindful that not every passerby is part of the celebration, plenty of locals are just trying to get to work or home.
