As Japan’s “Lost Decade” approaches its 20th year, the bursting of the Bubble economy is still being felt. But in what ways? That topic and many others are up for discussion during an appearance by author Jeff Kingston at Good Day Books in Ebisu. Kingston’s Contemporary Japan: History, Politics and Social Change since the 1980s addresses issues ranging from the country’s demographic time bomb to environmental degradation, and shows how traditional institutions, including the Imperial household and the yakuza, are undergoing drastic change.
