It’s been more than a decade since Tetsuya “Teddy” Kumakawa left the British Royal Ballet to form his own company, but the “Japanese wonder boy” remains—at least in his homeland—a powerful box office draw. For its autumn tour, Kumakawa’s K-Ballet company presents Coppelia and Swan Lake. In light of his backstage role as artistic director and choreographer, Kumakawa will dance only select performances in the role of Franz in Coppelia, preferring to showcase emerging lights like Yoshikazu Asada. Bonus: Royal Ballet principal Roberta Marquez appears in Swan Lake.
