If you’ve ever wanted to try your hand at Japanese painting (Nihonga), bilingual artist Maria Tanikawa is holding a series of workshops in which participants will learn how to decorate uchiwa fans and shikishi boards with the charcoal and metal-leaf pigments that are unique to the Nihonga palette. Tanikawa is based in New York and is well experienced at teaching foreign students the secrets of nihonga. She has a degree in Japanese Painting from Tama Art University, and is widely exhibited in Japan and the US.
