When young American artist Mickalene Thomas felt she was growing apart from her mother, she did what any of us would do: asked mom to pose nude. The results of this exercise are on show in the intriguing installation “Mama Bush: One of a Kind Two,” at Shinagawa’s Hara Museum. Based in New York, Thomas rocketed into the limelight after her vivid, rhinestone-encrusted portraits were exhibited in a window near the Museum of Modern Art. The Hara show recreates Thomas’s studio, giving viewers a peak into her creative process.
