The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

Amusingly retro, great-looking, and totally forgettable

Guy Ritchie dusts off the ’60s TV staple and gives it an amusingly retro, great-looking, and totally forgettable origin story.

As the Cold War rages, American operative Napoleon Solo (Henry Cavill) and KGB hotshot Illya Kuryakin (Armie Hammer) are assigned to work together to prevent the abducted physicist father of a sexy car mechanic (Alicia Vikander) from helping a demented megalomaniac (Elizabeth Debicki) develop a nuclear bomb. Hugh Grant’s their boss.

There’s nothing really wrong with this spy entertainment product, but nothing particularly memorable, either. There will be sequels. Japanese title: Codename U.N.C.L.E. (116 min)
