Two years ago, Swiss travel agent Thomas Koehler lost his job bringing tourists to Japan after the Tohoku earthquake scared away visitors. To show his love for the country, Koehler set off on a 2,900km foot journey across Japan. Swiss filmmakers and brothers Jan and Stephan Knuesel followed Koehler on his trip, and now present the results of their efforts in the form of the documentary Negative: Nothing. Koehler’s travels were widely covered in the Japanese and Swiss news at the time and the Japanese government officially honored him for his “Walk through Japan.”
