Sony Piles More onto PSP

Stop me if you’re past that whole next-gen game console thing, but it would be a bit of a fail not to at least mention that Sony is finally getting round to properly updating its smallest PlayStation, the PSP.

Codenamed the NGP (Next Generation Portable, see?), the handheld was unveiled in late January, along with tons of spec sheets and demos of games running just as sweetly as they do on the much larger PS3. That “photo” you see above is a render, BTW.

Foremost among the abilities bestowed on the NGP are a 5-inch high-res touchscreen, dual cameras, GPS, two analog control sticks and a touch-sensitive backside. Oh, and 3G wireless just like, y’know, your phone has.

Of course, the NGP is still a gamer, with titles galore assured by launch time at the end of this year, so let’s not get ahead of ourselves with PSP phone talk, OK?
