The original was a nice application of the amateur-video Blair Witch technique to the haunted house genre. It was basically a string of “Boo!” moments, and the ending was scary. But you could replace the “2” here with “more of,” as this is closer to a remake than a sequel. (BTW, it’s a prequel, too—don’t ask.) The amateur video is supplemented by 24-hour security cameras, a suspicious dog and a superstitious nanny. So if all you want is to be startled by loud noises and doors suddenly closing, this is for you. But we know where it’s going, and the gimmick is showing some strain.
