Izumi Tanaka’s choreographic creations are as much about shape as movement. The veteran choreographer, who returned to Japan in 2007 after 20 years in New York, is renowned for finely crafted dances, which captivate through arresting, angular poses that interrupt the movement. Her latest work debuts at Sogetsu Hall in Aoyama and will feature nine dancers including Tanaka herself dancing to music by Ryuichi Sakamoto. The program Soshite, Ima (“Then, Now”) is divided into two parts: Interactive and Here and After.
