The Tokyo Jazz festival just celebrated a decade, but Yokohama boasts 20 years of jazz fests. Yokohama’s venerable Jazz Promenade annually brings thousands of musicians to jazz clubs, halls and street corners across the city. This year’s international talent comes in the form of vibraphonist Pascal Schumacher’s Quartet making their first Japan visit, and supple American vocalist Harvey Thompson. Local jazzers slated to perform atmospheric venues like the bayside Red Brick Warehouse range from avant-jazz group Hikashu to veteran drummer George Ohtsuka and his Super Trio.
