The ongoing Tokyo Creative Weeks include a promising new exhibition overseen by ele-pop star Ryuichi Sakamoto. The show explores synesthesia, the ability of one sense to evoke a different experience in another—the classic example being the “blueness” of blues music. On show are pieces in which musicians collaborate with painters and sculptors, such as avant-garde musician Yoshihide Otomo and contemporary artist Yasutomo Aoyama’s Without Records, and Céleste Boursier-Mougenot’s Variation, a kind of sonic water sculpture.
