We’d be remiss not to include at least one bit of iPhone news. This time, from the stating-the-obvious-department, we have word of a survey by local research institute MMRI that says the Apple device has grabbed 72 percent of the market for smartphones in Japan.

That’s all very well, but when you consider that MMRI broke down the research into pretty nonsensical categories like non-Japanese operating systems, for example, it all amounts to one big “eh?”

More significantly, the iPhone now appears close to a 5 percent share of the entire Japanese keitai market—the number to which Messrs Son and Jobs will surely be paying the most attention.
