What’s going to be the next quirky female rock group to come out of Japan? Annual Koenji music fest Chicks Riot, organized by Vamp! magazine and Peachy Doll Records, is as good a place as any to find out. This year features future Shonen Knife Award candidates Jusho Futei Mushoku (right), whose faux-naïve song “I Wanna Be Your Beatles” is one of the zanier releases of the year. They’re joined by indie rapper Panorama Family, the post-punk flavored You Got A Radio!, and dancefloor-friendly rockers Donkey Vegetable Voxxx!!!, who purvey a style they call “tomato hardcore.” A follow-up Chicks Riot art exhibition is slated for Koenji’s Amp Cafe from December 8-13.
“Chicks Riot 2010”
Female-fronted indie bands Donkey Vegetable Voxxx!!! and Panorama Family, plus art exhibits. Nov 14, 4:30pm, ¥3,000 (adv)/¥3,600 (door). High, Koenji. Tel: 03-5378-0382.
