This is not over the top. Crank was over the top. This freak show can’t even remember passing the top. It’s absurd and outrageous, which is cool, but there are diminishing returns. In Crank, Jason Statham had to keep his adrenalin levels up to slow a poison. Here, he has a mechanical heart that needs regular jolts of electricity to keep going—jumper cables, tasers, sex in public(?). It’s like a grindhouse arcade game with no beginning or end. Or suspense. When I tried to envision its target audience, the best I could come up with is non-reading L.A. gangbangers with misspelled tattoos and ADD.
