A Cuban zombie film? ¿Por qué no? The producers of Juan of the Dead (2011) say they have made the first walking dead film in the Caribbean country—and no one is arguing the claim. Juan is a slacker who becomes an undead hunter. He assures his clients that their previously departed loved ones will be completely killed once and for all. Meanwhile, the government and media claim the ghouls are nothing more than political dissidents. Screens at Shinjuku Musashinokan (3-27-10 Shinjuku; http://shinjuku.musashino-k.jp) from October 27.

Also at Musashinokan are late-night showings of films by Roger Corman, the legendary producer who is known for giving many young actors and directors their start in Hollywood. Grand Theft Auto (1977), the first feature directed by Ron Howard, screens from October 27, and Hollywood Boulevard (1976), the debut of Joe Dante, is on from November 3.

The French cinema classic Four Nights of a Dreamer (1971) is screening with a new restored print at Shibuya’s Eurospace (1-5 Maruyamacho, Shibuya-ku; www.eurospace.co.jp) from October 27. The film, by late director Robert Bresson, is based on the short story “White Nights” by Dostoevsky.
