It could be the name of a Haruki Murakami novel or Beach Boys song. In this case it follows last year’s Triennale as the second of three Yokohama culture festivals the city has planned to raise its profile. Japan’s first citywide dance festival takes in everything from classical ballet to traditional Japanese dance to street and contemporary dance forms. Among the highlights are performances by cutting-edge Yokohama dance company Nibroll and the Yokohama Bayside Ballet, which will mount an outdoor stage at the atmospheric Red Brick Warehouse with the bay as the background.

Yokohama, July 20-Oct 6 (listing).
