In Do the Right Thing, Radio Raheem needed 20 batteries to keep his ghetto blaster juiced. Today, he’d ask for nothing more than a spot of sunshine. The Solar Sound is an eco-friendly stereo rig that’s tailor-made for lazy afternoons in the park: just let it soak up some rays, plug your iPod in, and you’re good to go. Sure, we don’t imagine that Public Enemy will be quite as phat blasting out of this as a bona fide ’80s boombox, but given how stringent the noise police are in Yoyogi Park, that’s probably not such a bad thing.

Solar Sound, ¥5,250. Available from major electronics stores. www.landport.co.jp/solarsound
