The world’s most iconic environmental event has become a pretty big deal in Japan, and it’s always a top draw for Tokyo families. The Earth Day Tokyo weekend brings in over 100,000 people with a slew of educational activities, presentations and of course arts and organic food. This year’s event is organized by respected Japan-based environmentalist C.W. Nicol, and will begin with a special convocational prayer ceremony by Native American activist Dennis Banks. Entertainers slated for the mainstage include Ainu musician Oki and the NTT East Tokyo Wind Ensemble. Festival goers can also bring cooking oil they’ve collected to be recycled into biodiesel. TokyoYuden, the organizers of the oil drive, aim to collect 1,000 kiloliters by the end of the weekend.
