A meal so tasty it brings tears to the eyes? Hanagoyomi Roppongi (Piramide 3F, 6-6-9 Roppongi, Minato-ku. Nearest stn: Roppongi; 03-5474-4135) has launched its Onna Nakase (“crying lady”) Fair, effectively claiming its offerings are so sumptuous they will have the fairer sex weeping with joy. It seems that during Edo period, poet Saikaku Ihara mused that women are helpless against the temptations of imo (sweet potato), tako (octopus) and kabocha (pumpkin). The set meal bases three dishes on each of these ingredients, for a total of nine delectable delights. Veggies shaped like gingko and maple leaves create kaiseki feel. Onna Nakase nihonshu from Shizuoka (¥1,200) also promises to turn on the water works. The pumpkin and cheese spring rolls (¥800), tako shabu salad (¥850) and yaki imo chocoloate pudding (¥600) may not be enough to get a modern gal teary eyed, but the selection will definitely get their mouths watering.
Available Mon-Fri at dinner until September 30.
