Ishikawa Kyuyo Art Fair Tokyo 20

Mar 12, 2026 at 11:00am ~ Mar 15, 2026 at 7:00pm

At ART FAIR TOKYO 20, Shibunkaku is introducing calligrapher Ishikawa Kyuyo who has created unique works to capture the essence of “writing.”

This exhibition brings together Ishikawa’s masterpieces from the 1970s, when he rejected the calligraphic atmosphere that typically emerges when writing with black ink on white paper. His representative works from the 1980s onwards, such as the “Idlegusa” and “The Tale of Genji” series, with Japanese classical literature as its theme, gives form to Ishikawa’s ideas. He continues to be at the forefront of expression and discussion in both his creative work and writing, producing over 2,000 works and publishing over 100 books.

Come to the venue and experience the world of Ishikawa Kyuyo who overturned preconceived notions on calligraphy to unfold artworks with astonishing density.
