KAAT Exhibition 2022 – Lines

May 01, 2022 at 10:00am ~ Jun 05, 2022 at 8:00pm

Kengo Kito’s new installation, exclusive to Kanagawa Arts Theater, opens this May.

“KAAT EXHIBITION” is a project series that KAAT (Kanagawa Arts Theater) has been holding every year since 2016 to create new expressions by fusing theater space and contemporary art. In 2022, which marks the 7th edition of the event, the KAAT atrium will be opened under the theme of “theatre opened in the city.” The atrium is an open space with a height of about 30m where anyone can drop in and take a break at the entrance of the theater. The new exhibition, entitled “Lines,” presents a new installation by Kengo Kito, an artist who is active both in Japan and overseas.

Kito is an artist who has repeatedly presented works that expand color sensitivity using everyday items such as hula hoops and scarves at many museums, public spaces, and stores. In this exhibition, KAAT is planning an installation that creates colorful vertical lines from the atrium ceiling and resonates with the rhythm and contrast of colors. The theater’s largest-scale attempt will welcome all visitors to the theater.

In addition, as related projects, KAAT will develop drama installations by Suguru Yamamoto and performances by popular artists such as Kedagoro, Ryohei Kondo, and Kenta Kojiri.
