POSE, Yukino Yamanaka

Does the unsteady pose indicate a decline in humanity or a new omen?

Yukino Yamanaka’s new solo exhibition will be held at DIESEL ART GALLERY

DIESEL ART GALLERY will be holding a solo exhibition titled “POSE” by artist Yukino Yamanaka from Saturday, December 2, 2023 to Tuesday, January 16, 2024 in Bakurocho, Nihonbashi. This event is curated by Gallery CON_.

Until now, Yukino Yamanaka has focused on both the outline of humans as substances and their state as phenomena, and has depicted amorphous, non-human beings that writhe in their midst. Since his early days, he has consistently used people as his motif, and his style has changed from figurative drawings to abstract drawings using random strokes. A blank space devoid of information, like a blown-out image, liquid flowing lazily between the bodies, and egotistical expressions and poses reminiscent of selfies or artist photographs. By depicting them in a way that blends into the entire painting, it captures the very process of mutation from “me” to “something,” and reveals us as unfinished beings who are escaping from our previous image of humans. Through the movement of perspective between the physical and information space that occurs during the production process, he creates paintings that allow one to imagine the true nature of the object at the moment when the painted image separates from the texture of the motif.

In April 2022, the gallery will open in Bakurocho, Nihonbashi, Tokyo. Centered on the coexistence of visuality and concept, we are developing programs that traverse various expressive cultures, including contemporary art. Rethinking and practicing Tokyo’s urban culture

Our vision is to reconsider not only contemporary art, but also music and other forms of expression as organic movements, and by planning programs born from dialogue with artists and research, we aim to move away from contemporaneity. We are continually constructing new contexts that emerge.
