
Ambient, Environment, Circumstances – The Topography of Contemporary Art

The Simose Art Museum will host its first contemporary art exhibition: “Ambient, Environment, Circumstances – The Topography of Contemporary Art” from April 26 (Saturday) to July 21 (Monday, public holiday), 2025.
Exhibition Highlights
This exhibition commemorates the museum’s 2024 Prix Versailles win and introduces contemporary artworks by nine artists from Japan, China, South Korea, Myanmar and Indonesia. It is curated by Keita Saito, with co-curation by Takanori Matsuyama, Li Jingwen (SEIBUN) and Yoko Negami.
Participating artists include Kaori Endo, Riyoo Kim, Daichi Kukita, Sou Suzuki and MADARA MANJI from Japan and international artists Omyo Cho (South Korea), Tianyi Zheng (China/Hong Kong), Muhamad Gerly (Indonesia) and Soe Yu Nwe (Myanmar), each presenting works influenced by environment, memory, identity and material.
Museum Architecture
Designed by Shigeru Ban, the museum’s architecture reflects the surrounding landscape of the Seto Inland Sea. The mirrored glass structures and movable exhibition halls offer a unique setting that interacts with the environment.
