Illness is, of course, a serious matter, but that’s no reason to avoid making it fun, as pharma giant Bayer has done with its new blood glucose monitor that hooks up to a Nintendo DS console.
The $75 Didget meter is aimed at diabetic kids, with a view to changing “blood sugar testing from something they have to do into something they want to do,” according to the company.
To that end, the gizmo opens up new, related games on the DS and, we’re told, an upcoming online community called Didget World. As you might expect, consistent regular testing is the real name of the game, which sounds to us like a healthy use for technology.
