Hank Williams back in the 40s and 50s pretty much defined what country music is today and is considered by many to be one of the great American musicians. I’m hardly a CW fan but would have liked to know what inspired him to write classics like “Your Cheatin’ Heart” and “Hey Good Lookin’.” Sadly, despite British actor Tom Hiddleston’s eerily amazing portrayal (he does his own singing), the film, like so many musical biopics, opts to focus instead on the man’s philandering, and the booze and drugs that killed him when he was just 29. Williams’s fans will dig it, but few new ones will be created. (123 min)
