Fast-emerging artist Kazuki Umezawa takes the cut-and-paste, pastiche approach to art and hauls it into the internet era. The 28-year-old Umezawa assembles vast collections of images, text, characters and data from online sources, and then transfers them by hand onto color prints, finally filling in the details with paint and pencil work. Reflecting the chaotic overload of the information age, his canvasses have received wide exposure, most recently at the Mori museum’s “Love” show. Umezawa’s upcoming exhibition is titled “Extreme AR Image Core” and is themed around virtual reality.
