Learn Japanese at UJS Language Institute

Intensive courses from beginner to advanced

UJS Language Institute is one of the long-established Japanese-language schools in Minato-ku, Tokyo. Since its establishment in 1986, the school’s priority has always been to work on well-balanced learning of the 4 core skills: reading, listening, writing and speaking.

UJS adapts something called a direct method, which means tutors teach Japanese in Japanese, rather than your mother tongue. It’s possible for learners to study Japanese right from the get-go even if they have never studied Japanese before, and all nationalities can study together in the same classroom. Not only is it a great way to learn Japanese, but it is also a good opportunity to expand your friend circle and your community in a new city.

The lessons are intensive courses that run from Monday to Friday, making sure you can squeeze the most out of your time. Teachers give you homework every day so you can continue your learning even outside of classroom hours. To keep you on track, UJS sets various kinds of Japanese tests daily, weekly and semesterly, making the school ideal for you if you’re a highly motivated learner ready to throw yourself deep into your language-learning journey.

The beginner lessons start in April, July, October and January, and run for around 9 months. After you complete the course, you’ll be able to flex your new language skills by communicating in a daily conversation with core phrases and vocabulary. Most students attend UJS for 9 months to a year. However, the class continues to pre-intermediate, intermediate and advanced levels, which head into academic and business Japanese. Pre-intermediate intermediate and above-the-level classes cover the preparation for the JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test). 3 months just before the examination, one day of weekly classes switches to a JLPT preparation class, so you’ll be ready to breeze through the exam.

If you’re ready to study Japanese and expand your view of the world through the joy of language, please contact UJS from the contact form on their website.
