Inimitable, raspy-voiced chanteuse Macy Gray touches down to introduce her new “love letter to Stevie Wonder” on the 40th anniversary of his classic album Talking Book. Following on her recent album of covers of edgy tunes by the likes of Arcade Fire, Gray settles into the more comfortable terrain of Wonder’s ’70s funk masterpiece. She delivers a Spartan take on “You and I” and an abstract, jazzy adaptation of “Superstition” on an album that once again establishes Gray as a formidable pop interpreter if not a songwriter.
