Internet access aboard international flights has a checkered (and mostly poor) history, so it’s heartening to see that changing with the introduction of a new full-speed service from Panasonic.

The company’s eXConnect Wi-Fi service will revive Lufthansa’s long-dead FlyNet offering, which was shut down when Boeing pulled the plug on its Connexion service in 2006. First up for the 50Mbps treatment will be some of the German carrier’s routes between the US and Europe next year, with more sure to follow on other airlines if that proves successful. Likely to cost $10 an hour, BTW.
