When you’ve spent the whole day huddled under the kotatsu, slurping piping-hot nabe, the last thing you want is to slip into a bed that feels like it’s been pulled straight out of a meat locker. We’ve never understood why hot water bottles (yutanpo) aren’t more popular in Japan—what with flimsy insulation and no central heating being the norm—but people who don’t fancy shivering themselves to sleep still have a range of options. Top of our wish list are these impeccably cute numbers modeled after the tsuchinoko, a snake-like creature from Japanese mythology that might also be familiar to anyone who’s played Metal Gear Solid 3 (eh, ask a computer geek).

Corazon Tsuchinoko hot water bottle, ¥2,625. Available from Amazon Japan and www.e-yutanpo.com
