When Jason Statham first came on the scene two and a half decades ago, in Guy Ritchie’s Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, he was seen as a welcome step up from the waning action heroes like Stallone and Schwarzenegger.

Since then he has carved out a decent tough-guy career and now has several dozen actioners under his belt. But the thing is, they’re all the same movie. And I have to say, Jason, that we’re a little disappointed. (Stallone gets a writer’s credit, so there’s that.)

This time he’s a royal commando who has traded his lethal career for one in construction so as to be a better dad to his young daughter. But when his boss’s daughter is kidnapped by bad guys, he must dust off his particular set of skills and go to the rescue, yada yada.

What follows is two hours of repetitive and fairly unimaginative fisticuffs, shooting, stabbing and whatever other cartoony mayhem he sees fit to wreak. I kept waiting for John Wick to show up. Hardcore Statham fans only. (116 min)
