A vacationing British couple is approached in a Marrakesh bar by a Russian mobster wishing to defect, offering proof of a massive money laundering operation in return for his family’s safety. Ewan McGregor and Naomie Harris (and Damian Lewis) put in their usual professional work in this John Le Carré adaptation, but the film belongs to a terrific Stellan Scarsgard with his wild, ferocious and often quite funny turn as the gangster. This is lesser Le Carré, both book and film, more moody than tense, and with a layered if slightly implausible plot. But well worth a look. (108 min)
