Billed as a “chance to ask questions about your language that you were always afraid to ask,” an upcoming discussion at Good Day Books in Ebisu seeks to bring the weighty subject of linguistics to a non-specialist audience. Leading the talk is British author Peter Sharpe, whose Language: the Big Picture is a general interest work that covers topics ranging from the development of English to the variation of language across cultures. A former professor at Takushoku University in Tokyo, Sharpe is also co-editor of Kodansha’s Communicative English-Japanese Dictionary, one of the standard reference works in the field.
