Since we’re sniffing ’round Sony, we might as well share the scoop on a slightly more “normal” gadget (i.e. one that probably won’t hemorrhage cash) – a new pocketable camcorder for bloggers that the marketing geniuses are calling the bloggie.

Actually, there are really two bloggies due in the shops early February, retailing for ¥27,000 and ¥30,000 and boasting 1080p HD video capabilities. There isn’t much of a difference between the pair, save for the shape: the more expensive CM5 has a pistol-style grip, while the cheaper PM5K is a vertical oblong with a swiveling 360o lens. Both record to SD cards or Memory Sticks.

To be perfectly frank, both bloggies are pretty dull and don’t really make getting video online much easier than any other camcorder, but Sony is touting YouTube and Mixi compatibility, as well as promising some mystery tie-up with Facebook later this year, so perhaps that’ll liven things up a bit.
