Japanese corporations are notorious for their hostile attitudes toward working mothers. That’s the stereotype, anyway. A new survey by Luxembourg-based workplace solutions provider Regus tells a different story: Japan beats all other countries when it comes to “Net Appreciation of Part-Time Mothers.” This result is even more impressive when set against the backdrop of the global recession—according to the survey, only 36 percent of companies around the world have set a goal of hiring new moms, compared to 44 percent a year ago.
