In this fun sci-fi romance, two people with obvious chemistry—played by two actors with obvious chemistry (Matt Damon and Emily Blunt)—are being kept apart by (mostly) unseen forces because their being together does not fit into some master “plan,” a plan being kept on track by unsmiling guys in fedoras (angels, perhaps?). Well, that’s just not good enough for Matt, and the metaphysical battle between predestination vs. free will is on. Never mind the ads; this is not an action flick. Visually arresting without being flashy. Not great cinema but an enjoyable and mildly thought-provoking night at the movies.
