Following overseas acclaim, director Hideki Noda’s meditation on revenge returns home for an English run starring Kathryn Hunter and Noda himself, before Rie Miyazawa takes up the reigns for the Japanese segment. In Noda’s gender-bending play, a Japanese businessman (Hunter) comes back to his house to find his family taken hostage by an escaped convict. With the police at a loss, the man decides to take matters into his own hands, abducting the criminal’s own wife and son and threatening to cut off the child’s fingers one by one unless his own family is released.
