Involving spy drama from Zal Batmanglij (Sound of My Voice) follows an undercover field agent for a high-end private intelligence company (Brit Marling in a complex role) as she infiltrates the title eco-terrorist cult. As can happen, she begins to feel sympathy for those she’s spying on, and begins to question her mission. At times a suspenseful spy romp, at others a prickly political rant, this one’s hard to classify, but there’s no shortage of ideas floating around. While tonally uneven, it’s got brains and guts galore. It may start arguments, but they’ll be worth having. A Movie that Matters. (116 min)
