Two of Disney’s best-known characters are getting a makeover this month with the launch of Rootote’s “The Artists Who Love Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse” series. The company asked 54 artists, designers and illustrators to create original graphics featuring the wholesome twosome, which were then printed onto canvas bags. The resulting artwork features everything from the expected cutesy, heart-covered motifs to ’40s-inspired Vargas Girls and Mickey as a leather-clad rocker. The bags will be on sale for ¥3,675 at Shinjuku Isetan from September 16-29 (www.isetan.co.jp), the Rootote Gallery in Daikanyama from September 17-30 (www.rootote.com/en) and all three Bals Tokyo locations from September 18-October 15 (www.balstokyo.com).
