This concert brings together some of the most talented and eccentric musicians in Japan for what promises to be an evening of unpredictable fun. U-zhaan is one of Japan’s best players of the Indian tabla drums and Rei Harakami is one of its finest keyboardists and producers of distinctive electronica. Together, if their latest YouTube video is the yardstick, they are also fans of the root vegetable gobo and its spicy pickled form kinpira. Open Reel Ensemble is a group of young reel-to-reel tape deck fanatics who employ digital switches to reinvent their decks as modern-day samplers. What they have in mind for the evening is anyone’s guess.
