- Actress Aya Ueto, 24, starred in the popular “White Family” commercials for Softbank, and made her first foray into fashion design with a line of wedding dresses.
- Playwright/novelist Yukiko Motoya, 30, garnered a nomination for the prestigious Akutagawa Prize and won the Kunio Kishida Drama Prize for her play Shiawase Saiko Arigato Maji de!
- Ubiquitous actress Yukie Nakama, 29, starred in the big-screen adaptation of her megahit TV series Gokusen, and was named co-host of NHK’s New Year’s Eve show Kohaku Uta Gassen for the fourth time.
Vogue Nippon also honored six women for their contributions over the last decade: actresses Rie Miyazawa, 36, and Shinobu Otake, 50; supermodel Ai Tominaga, 27; former tennis pro Ai Sugiyama, 34; artist Yayoi Kusama, 80; and artist/activist Yoko Ono, 76.
