What do NEC, Toshiba, Panasonic, Fujitsu, Canon, Hitachi and Renesas have in common? Give up? Turns out they’re all working together to build a better computer processor that will knock Intel off its lofty CPU perch.
The new venture clearly reckons it could do with some of Chipzilla’s 80 percent market share for personal computer processors, and so has decided to tackle it with a new chip that does the same thing, but on far less power.
On top of the green aspect, the wonder CPU—it’s slated for 2012—will somehow be able to harness solar power and will keep on chugging even when the mains power is cut off. This, we gotta see.
