Apollo 18

The true horror sets in...

Originally published on metropolis.co.jp on April 2012

Pushing the limits of the increasingly tiresome “found-footage” horror genre is this story of the 18th Apollo moon mission, which, apparently, was not really cancelled, but sent up secretly in 1974 to learn what happened to an also-secret Russian lunar lander. (Where, exactly, was this footage found?) The atmosphere level in this bad TV reality show simulates that of its location (none). It’s basically a repetitive game of spot-the-creature with a few bumps in the night and cheap jolts until the low-budget monsters are finally revealed, and then the true horror sets in: you paid money to see this.
