Finland may seem worlds away from planet Japan, but leading Finnish travel mag Mondo has just released their iPad-specific Mondo Travel Guide Tokyo. The guide uses an intuitive yet simple swipe-and-tap-style to navigate what is essentially a PDF magazine. Swipe left or right to move between chapters on Tokyo history, eateries, accommodations, nightlife and gourmet spots. Swipe up or down to scroll the chapter’s pages embedded with video and picture galleries of all the usual spots. Google Maps icons let you call up the locations mentioned. Yes, you’ve seen it all before and it certainly isn’t exhaustive, but editor Heikki Valkama, who has lived in Tokyo for 20 years, does advise visitors to pick up a copy of Metropolis—so he must know what he’s talking about. Mondo Travel Guide Tokyo is the first of their books to be published in English.
