Title refers to a rare condition called “anesthetic awareness,” which causes sufferers to appear unconscious but remain aware while enjoying surgical procedures. In this suspense-free medical thriller, Hayden Christensen, who is arguably more interesting zonked out than awake, does a lot of scenery chewing through flashbacks, and Jessica Alba frets prettily in the waiting room. Some second-act intrigue totally unrelated to the premise provides brief defibrillation, with no one as (fill in the blank) as s/he seems to be, but it fades fast. I experienced difficulty swallowing and wanted to be sedated.
