When we were in high school, the annual blood drive was one of the highlights of the year. Sit in a chair, eat cookies, and don’t go back to class for at least half an hour—naturally, every eligible student showed up. Now, the Japanese Red Cross has decided to offer similar incentives to the otaku of Akihabara with the new Akiba:F blood donation room. This futuristic facility looks like something out of a sci-fi movie, with displays of anime figurines, movie screenings and even free wireless internet. Donors can also browse through the collection of manga or play around on the iPods provided at each donor station. (We hear the facility is actually a front for a top-secret cyborg research operation…hehe). Donors must speak Japanese.
