English is a difficult language. I’m sure I’m preaching to the choir here, but have you ever stopped to think about how many idioms and nonsensical phrases the English language has? I don’t think I was able to fully grasp how difficult learning English is until I fell in love with my husband. For the sake of simplicity, let’s just stick with phrases that use colors to describe your mood. You can say “I’m green with envy” (jealous), “I’m blue” (sad), “I’m tickled pink” (delighted) and “I saw red” (furious). Seriously, who comes up with these things?

英語は難しい言語だと思います。なぜなら数えきれないほどの慣用句や無意味な言い回しが存在するからです。私は夫に出会うまで、英語を学ぶ事がどれだけ難しい事かを知りませんでした。ほんの一部ですが、色を使って感情を表現するフレーズを紹介します。「I’m green with envy」は嫉妬、「I’m blue」は悲しみ、「I’m tickled pink」は喜び、「I saw red」は怒りを表します。だれがこのような表現を思いつくのか、本当に不思議です。
